For instance, "Florida" becomes "FL," and "New South Wales" becomes "NSW." Phone Country Validation: The Intelligent Address Formatter eliminates symbols from phone numbers (except for "+"). Additionally, an extra check confirms whether the provided number falls within the 11-14 character range for shipments bound for GB. If compliant, the number remains unchanged; if not, it defaults to "01111111111." Default Phone Number Fill: In cases where a phone number isn't specified in the request, a default value of "01111111111" is automatically inserted. Rectification of Phone Number Plus Symbol: If your phone number includes a "+" symbol, it is replaced with "00." Changing Label Size To modify the dimensions of your labels, you can easily update the "label_size" value within your "create-label" request. Answer: The system may continue to produce a 6x4 label because the relevant courier might not support the size you entered. Generally, our system defaults to supporting 6x4 labels. Question: Could printing the label larger than its actual size pose an issue? Answer: Printing the label slightly larger than its actual size should be fine, but it's advised to stay within the dimensions of half an A4 sheet. Question: Is it acceptable to shrink the label during printing? Answer: Shrinking the label could affect the functionality of the barcode. However, if your package is too small for the label, you can wrap the label around the parcel without issue. Creating a New API Group Employing an API Group allows you to cluster API Accounts together within the groups you establish. It proves advantageous when you aim to categorize the accounts you possess alongside the authentications you've implemented. This procedure closely resembles the creation of API Accounts, but it's notably more streamlined. To initiate this process, select the "Create" button in the page's upper right corner. Following this, opt for "Create API Group" from the dropdown menu that appears. A window will materialize at the centre of the screen, prompting you to assign a name to your group. Upon naming, finalize the process by clicking the "Create Group" button. Subsequently, you gain the ability to generate fresh API Accounts within the newly formed group or transfer existing API accounts from other groups into this newly established one. Kindly be aware that all API Accounts need to reside within an API Group. You must create one before creating an API Account. Creating a New API Account The "API Accounts" page comprehensively lists API accounts associated with your user profile. It's possible to have multiple API accounts linked to a single user. Depending on your usage scenario, you might only require one API account as an individual API user. However, if you function as a reseller or an agency, managing the Courier API on behalf of different clients, the option exists to maintain multiple API user accounts. Access the "Create" button in the upper right-hand corner to initiate creating a new API account. From the ensuing dropdown menu, select "Create API Account." After opting for "Create New API Account," furnish a Name for the account and generate a unique key within the ensuing window. This key is exclusive to your account. While you won't need to input it directly into your requests, it's advisable to store it securely. Although infrequently required, this key becomes essential for specific applications, such as internal applications within the DC framework. Upon completing these steps, finalize the process by selecting "Save Changes." Subsequently, your freshly generated API account will be visible on the page, ready for utilization. Registering New Auths Upon obtaining your API credentials for the courier service, the next step involves registering them with the Courier API. This process ensures that your credentials are securely stored within the Courier API system, eliminating the necessity of including them with each request. These credentials are your authentication details for the courier, and to integrate a courier into the Courier API, you need to register a new authentication. To begin registering a new authentication, navigate to the "API Account" page and locate the "View Registered Auths" section. Adjacent to this, you'll find a plus icon – click on it. Triggering the plus icon initiates a dropdown menu containing courier names. You can choose the specific courier or couriers you have in mind by inputting the corresponding courier authentications. After selecting the courier, proceed to complete the necessary fields. Company: You can add a company name for differentiation purposes. This field is handy if you possess multiple accounts associated with the same courier; adding a company name aids in distinguishing between these accounts. Testing Flag: Ensure that the Testing field aligns with your current mode. If you're operating in a testing environment, mark this field as "Yes"; otherwise, leave it as "No." Credentials: Enter any courier-specific information required in these dedicated fields. Once you've diligently filled in these details, finalize the process by clicking "Save Changes." Congratulations, you've now effectively registered a new authentication within the system. Viewing Registered Auths Click the "View Registered Auths" option to access your registered authentications. Upon opening the pop-up, you can review both the "View Presets" and "Details" associated with each authentication. Should the need arise, you can also remove registered authentications by clicking on the red bin icon. View Presets: This option lets you observe the presets configured for the courier linked to the registered authentication. Clicking on "View Presets" will seamlessly redirect you to the service directory of the chosen courier. Within this directory, you can review existing presets or establish new ones. Details: Through the "Details" button, you can delve into the specifics of the authentication. It encompasses information such as the username and password or API keys. Moreover, you can make alterations to these details as required. Trash Bin Icon: The trashbin icon facilitates the removal of an authentication from your API Account. This action can be performed whenever deemed necessary. Keys & Tokens Upon selecting this button, you'll encounter two distinct sections: the "Account Key" segment and a section dedicated to Tokens. Account Key: As previously discussed in this document, when generating a new API account, a unique key is generated exclusively for that account. In this section, you can both "Re-Generate Key" and "Reset Key." A word of caution: Should you choose to reset the key while it's concurrently in use by your applications, it will lead to a disruption, necessitating an update to the key with a fresh one. This action might be taken to revoke access. Nevertheless, we advise using tokens, which yield a similar outcome. Tokens offer the advantage of enabling you to create multiple instances, each serving different use cases. Tokens: Tokens are indispensable for crafting authentication requests via the API. They serve as identifiers for requests originating from specific API users. Consequently, a token associated with the relevant API user is essential to verify a request's authenticity. Within this section, you can review previously generated tokens or generate new ones. To create a fresh token, click the "Create Token" button. Following this, assign a name to your token and proceed by selecting "Create Token" once again. Upon preservation, your newly minted token will become visible on the lower part of the screen. The corresponding token value can be found here. If, at any point, you desire to eliminate a particular token, you can do so by clicking on the adjacent bin icon. View Shipments Upon selecting the "View Shipments" button, a redirection will take place, guiding you to the Shipments page. An encompassing list of all shipment requests dispatched by the specific API account will be visible here. Actions Disable: You can deactivate one or multiple API Accounts at your discretion by selecting the "Disable" button. Deactivating an API account will restrict its access. Once deactivated, the button will transition to green and display "Enable," facilitating the reactivation process for future utilization. Change Group: This functionality empowers you to transfer the chosen API account to a different API Group, facilitating organized management. Delete API Account: If needed, you can erase an API Account or multiple accounts by clicking the bin icon adjacent to the "Disable" button. Webhooks Overview Web applications communicate through API calls, where requests yield responses, and webhooks serve as automatic event triggers that promptly relay information. Unlike API calls requiring periodic data polling, webhooks provide real-time event notifications. This document will guide you on creating and utilizing webhooks within the Shipping API, alongside an overview of the Webhooks page's features. Accessing the Webhooks Page To navigate the webhooks page, click the "Webhooks" button in the left-hand menu. Creating a Webhook To initiate the webhook creation process, click the "Create Webhook" button in the top-right corner. Subsequently, a pop-up window will appear, prompting you to input the necessary details: Name: Provide a unique name for your webhook, which can be anything you prefer. Event: Here, you can select the specific events you want to receive notifications from the application. Options include: shipment.created: Notifies you whenever a shipment request (label request) is made. shipment.cancelled: Reports on any canceled shipments in the receiver application. auth.registered: Alerts you each time a new authentication is registered on your Courier API account, which can be managed on the "API Accounts" page. shipment.tracked: Informs you when a shipment is tracked in the receiver application, provided you have enabled tracking in your account settings. API Account: Choose the relevant API account to associate with this webhook. API accounts can be configured on the "API Accounts" page. Method: Select the HTTP request method for your webhook, typically either PUT or POST. The majority of webhooks use POST to transmit data. URL: To set up the webhook, input the URL where the Shipping API should deliver its requests. You can obtain this webhook URL from the destination application to which you wish to send data. If you don't have a specific application, consider using an example like Webhook.site and utilize the provided URL. You can find more information about it in this section. Headers: This section is optional but allows you to include additional headers if the target application requires it. Click "Add Header" to add a header and complete the necessary fields. Once you've filled in these fields, click "Create Webhook." You'll then be prompted to enable the webhook. If you intend to use it, click "Enable Webhook." Following this confirmation, you can view the webhook you've just created. Editing a Webhook Status: This column displays the current status of webhooks, which can be either "Active" or "Inactive." You can toggle the status of each webhook by clicking the corresponding icon to "Enable" or "Disable" it. Please note that if a webhook is inactive, no notifications will be sent by the receiver application. Edit: Modify webhook details by clicking the "Edit" button next to it. Test: To ensure your webhook is functioning correctly without needing to test API requests and credit consumption, you can test it. Click the related icon, and you'll be presented with the "Request Data" for the specific event (e.g., creating a shipment request) and the subsequent "Response Data" from the receiving application (e.g., Webhook.site). You'll receive a message indicating the success or failure of the test. Jobs: Access the "Webhook Jobs" page by clicking the icon associated with each webhook. Here, you'll find information such as: Try Count: Indicates how many attempts have been made to send data to the webhook URL. Date Triggered: Specifies the exact date and time when the webhook event was triggered. Request Log ID: A unique identifier for the request in our system. Last Response Code: Displays the HTTP response code for requests, showing the most recent response code from the Shipping API about that webhook. API Logs: Click the relevant icon in this column to access the "API Request Log" page for more detailed information about the webhook. Additional information on API Request Logs can be found in the dedicated document. Logs: This section contains the webhook request logs. Click the associated icon to view the URL, Method, and Response Code details. For a more comprehensive view of the "Request Data" and "Response Data" of the webhook, click "View Request & Response." Delete: To remove a webhook, click the bin icon at the end of the row. Webhook Website and Connection To acquire your unique URL, visit https://webhook.site/ and use it within the Shipping API. After sending a test notification through the test function, you can verify its presence on the platform, confirming the successful functionality of the webhook you've set up. Email Settings Overview This documentation provides a comprehensive guide to configuring email settings in your Shipping API account, explicitly focusing on integration with MailGun. You will learn how to access the Email Settings section, create a new account, fill in account details, including the MailGun API Key, Domain, and API Base URL, and retrieve these MailGun-specific values from your MailGun account. Following these steps will ensure the successful configuration of your Courier API Email Settings, enabling efficient email notification delivery through MailGun. Accessing the Email Settings Page Navigate to the "Notifications" button on the left-hand menu, and select the highlighted "Email Settings" tab in the screen's top right corner. Creating a New Account Choose the desired account type from the options available on the left side of the screen, including Mailgun, Amazon SES, or Sendgrid. After selecting your preferred service, click the "Create Account" button to initiate the account creation process. Subsequently, click the highlighted section to access and expand the details of the newly created account, revealing the fields that require completion. Retrieve the essential credentials from your chosen platform, and then conclude the setup by clicking the "Save Account Details" button. Obtaining API Credentials from Mailgun To acquire the "MailGun Domain" value, log in to your MailGun account, and from the list of domains, select the one you intend to use. Copy the corresponding domain address and paste it into the designated "MailGun Domain" field within your Shipping API Email Settings. For obtaining the "MailGun API Key" and "MailGun API Base URL" values, you have two options: you can either click on the desired domain, as indicated in the highlighted area, to navigate directly to the API key generation page or navigate through the left-hand bar by clicking the "Sending" tab and then proceed to the "Overview" page. Locate and select the API section on this page, providing you with the required credentials. Subsequently, paste these acquired values into their respective fields: "MailGun API Key" and "MailGun API Base URL" within your Shipping API Email Settings. If you are using a Sandbox, make sure that the recipients are authorized in the Mailgun dashboard. Obtaining API Credentials from SendGrid Log in to your SendGrid account and access the "Settings" section. You can do this by clicking on "Settings" in the dashboard or using this direct link: SendGrid Settings. On the "API Keys" page, locate and click the "Create API Key" button, which is positioned in the top right corner. Follow the provided instructions to generate an API key. Be aware that the generated API key will be visible only once for security reasons, so copy and paste it into the "API Key" field within your Shipping configuration. Ensure you have a trusted sender by navigating to the "Settings" section again and selecting "Sender Authentication." Alternatively, use this link: Sender Authentication in SendGrid. On the "Sender Authentication" page, you have two options: Authenticate a domain, allowing you to send emails from any address under a domain you control. Verify a single sender, enabling you to send emails exclusively from a specific address. After completing the sender authentication, copy the approved email address and paste it into the "Test Sender" field within your Shipping settings. Before saving your settings, click the "Test Settings" button to verify your configuration functions correctly. In the "Name" field within Shipping, you can enter any label that helps you identify this as your SendGrid account. This field is for your reference. Obtaining API Credentials from Amazon SES To set up Amazon SES as your email provider, you must obtain the Test Sender, Region, Key, and Secret details. Follow these steps to complete the setup: Log into your AWS account and ensure the selected region aligns with your intended usage. You can do this by expanding the region menu located in the top right corner of the AWS console. Next, create an IAM (Identity and Access Management) user with the "AmazonSESFullAccess" policy. You can initiate this process by visiting the IAM User Creation link. Follow the steps outlined in the provided GIF or instructions on the page. After successfully creating the IAM user, click the "Download .csv" option and securely store the downloaded CSV file on your computer. This CSV file contains your Key and Secret credentials. As the second step in setting up Amazon SES as your email provider, please follow these instructions: To initiate the "Create Identity" process, which authorizes a sender email or domain, go to the Amazon SES Dashboard page. You'll encounter two identity options on the SES Dashboard: verify an entire domain or a specific sender email address. After providing all the necessary information, click the "Create Identity" button at the page's bottom right corner. After completing this step, you must validate the email address or domain. To do this, you must request production access from the SES Dashboard. Click "Account dashboard" on the left-hand menu to navigate this page. You'll find the "Request production access" button in the top section of this page. Click it to finalize the process. While on your dashboard, you can identify your AWS region in the dropdown menu. Interact with the button at the top right corner; the selected region will be highlighted in orange. For example, it might appear as "eu-west-2." You'll use this region information in your Shipping configuration's "Region" section. In the last section, you'll find an example of how to input your information into Shipping. The "Name" field can be any label you prefer. Use the email address you used during the Amazon SES setup as the "Test Sender." Follow the region instructions mentioned above in the "Region" section. Retrieve the "Key" and "Secret" from the CSV file. You can test and save the connection once you've completed all these steps. Creating a Template To initiate the creation of a new template, click on the "Create Template" button in the top-right corner of the page. This action will lead you to a fresh, blank template page. Your initial step should be naming your template, which can be done through the page's top-left corner. Variables & Usage You'll access a JSON-structured list of variables by clicking the "Variables & Usage" button, conveniently located next to the naming field. This functionality enables you to incorporate shipment data seamlessly into your template content by inserting these variables. Email Editor Observing the multitude of tools and elements available on the right-hand side of the page, it becomes evident that these resources are instrumental in simplifying crafting your email content. You have two options for utilising these elements: Drag & Drop: You can drag and drop one of the elements from the "Content" section into the blue box. Select & Add: Alternatively, click the blue box and choose the desired element from the available options. Content The "Content" section comprises two categories: "Basic" and "Premade" blocks, each offering various elements for crafting your email templates. Basic: Text: This element adds a text box to your template, enabling text input and editing via the tools displayed atop the text box and within the right-hand "Content" section. Image: You can incorporate images into your email template using this element. After adding it, customise the image box by uploading it from your computer or selecting a free stock image from Pexels. Options include creating folders, selecting and deleting images in the file manager, and additional settings in the "Content" section. GIF: This element allows the addition of GIFs to your email template. You can change the default GIF by clicking on the image box and choosing from options like GIPHY or providing a custom source URL. Button: Use this element to add clickable buttons linked to URLs. Button text, link, shape, and color options are available in the "Content" section. Divider: Add dividers to separate content within your template. Customise line style, color, and background color by clicking on the divider element. Spacer: This element inserts space between other template elements. You can adjust the spacer height and background color. Social: Incorporate social media icons into your email template with this element. Customise icon styles, sizes, and padding, and even upload custom icons. The "Is Share URL" option streamlines social media sharing by prepopulating messages and images. An Example Email Template We've designed a basic email template example that can provide you with valuable insights. Below, we'll break down the elements used and their order to simplify replicating or creating a similar email template with a comparable structure. 1. Header with Company Logo:We've incorporated a picture field at the top, where you can insert your company's logo and adjust its size. 2. Divider:We've added a divider below the company logo to create a visual separation between sections. 3. Personalized Message Text Field:In the next section, you'll find a text field. It is where you can include a meaningful message using available variables. These variables fetch data for each order, enabling you to craft personalized emails for each customer. 4. Divider:Another divider follows the personalized message section, maintaining visual clarity. 5. Social Media Links and Additional Text Field:The subsequent section combines both text and social media fields. Here, we've customized the social media links for our company. You can easily modify this field to include as many platforms as possible. Accessing the Notification History Page To navigate this page, click the "Notifications" button in the left-hand menu. Notification Details Here's a concise description of the critical elements on this page: ID: The Notification Job ID increments with each new notification creation. Name: The "Notification Name" assigned to the notification you created on the Notification page. Execution Time: This represents the scheduled time for email delivery or when an email is canceled or fails, allowing you to specify a delay after the triggered status. Recipient: Displays the recipient's email address. Mail Account: Indicates the selected mail account associated with the notification. Status: Reflects the current status of the notification: Pending: Signifies that the notification is awaiting its scheduled send time, as specified in the delay settings. Completed: Indicates that the notification was successfully sent. Cancelled: Denotes a notification that was canceled before sending. Failed: Marks a notification that failed to send for any reason. Log: Clicking on the icon in the "Log" column allows you to access the logs associated with the specific notification, redirecting you to the "API Request Logs" page. Preview: Clicking the preview icon enables you to view the rendered email as the recipient will receive it. Cancel: If the notification is pending, you can cancel it by clicking on the related bin icon. Filters: Utilize the filters at the top of the page to refine your results based on specific criteria, mirroring the functionality of the filters found in the Notification tab. Accessing the Notifications Page Click the "Notifications" button from the left-hand menu to access it. Creating a Notification Click the "Create Notification" button in the page's top right corner. If you encounter an error message indicating the need to configure an email template or email account before proceeding, you must set these up before creating a notification. Refer to our "Email Templates" and "Email Settings" pages for detailed instructions on how to do this. Upon clicking the "Create Notification" button, a window will appear where you can configure the filters and details for your notifications: Notification Name: Choose a name for your notification; it can be anything you prefer. API Account: Select the API account for which you wish to enable the notification feature. Linked Couriers: After selecting the API account, specify the courier or couriers you want to notify customers about triggered events. Parameter: By default, "Tracking Status" is selected as the parameter, but you can add another parameter by clicking the "Add Parameter" button. The additional parameter available is "Delay Time." Tracking Status: Choose the tracking status or statuses you want to trigger customer notifications. For more information about tracking statuses, refer to our "Tracking API" document. Delay Time: Specify the time delay, in days, after the triggered status for the email to be sent. For example, if you select "Delivered" as the tracking status and enter "7D" in the "Delay Time" field, the email will be sent seven days after we receive notification of delivery. This option allows you to send emails requesting reviews, for instance. Once you have filled in these fields, click "Continue" to proceed to the next page. On the next page, you'll configure additional details for your notification: Subject Line: This is the subject of the emails that will be sent. Customize it to reflect the purpose of the email, such as "Please leave a review." Mail Account: Choose one of the mail accounts you previously created on the "Email Settings" tab. Sender Name: Enter the email sender's name as you want it to appear in the email. Sender Email: Provide the sender's email address, which will be shown as the "from" address. Note that this email address should be defined in your mail provider settings. Email Template: Click the pencil icon to access the Email Template tab and select one of the templates you created earlier. After filling in all the necessary fields and selecting the desired template, click "Create Notification." Congratulations! You have successfully created the notification, which will now appear in your list of notifications. Here's an overview of the available filter options: Name: If you're looking for a notification with a particular name or a part of it, you can input the name in this field to narrow down your search results. Status Trigger: This filter allows you to view notifications with specific trigger statuses, such as "Booked," "Collected," "Delivered," and more. Select the desired status(es) to filter the results accordingly. Mail Account: If you've added multiple mail accounts and need to focus on specific ones, use this filter to isolate the desired mail account(s). API Account: To view notifications associated with particular API accounts, make your selection from this filter. Linked Couriers: With this filter, you can specify the courier(s) for which you want to view related notifications. Status: If you want to differentiate between "Active" and "Inactive" notifications, you can use this filter to display notifications based on their status. Additionally, you can choose which columns are visible to you by accessing the "Column Selector." Similarly, you can customize which filters are displayed in the "Filter Selector" section, represented by the highlighted circle icon between the filter columns and the "Create Notification" button. The only non-submitted value is the Posting Location. This exception is due to the Posting Location being the sole variable. These three parameters remain constant for the specific service, whereas the variable aspect is the Posting Location. A custom preset named "Royal Mail 24 Test" is generated, with "RM24TEST" as the DC Service ID. Instead of inputting "ROYALMAIL-CRL1-P" or any other Service ID, you can now utilise the "RM24TEST" service designation within the Playground. Use this filter to choose the API account or accounts you wish to examine. Account Name & Number: For courier resellers, customers are assigned "Account Name" and "Account Number" values when setting up their accounts. These values are defined if a request originates from a customer's customer. In such cases, select a specific "Account Name" or "Number" to review shipments related to that account exclusively. Response Result: You can filter shipments based on whether they have succeeded or failed. Tracking: Refine shipments by specific statuses such as "Booked," "Collected," "Delivered," and more using the Tracking filter. On-Time/Late: To focus solely on shipments with specific time-related statuses like "Expected Late," "Expected On Time," "Delivered Late," or "Delivered On Time," make your selection here. Cancelled: The Shipping API offers the capability to cancel labels sent (details on cancelling labels are provided later in this document). This filter lets you view shipments that have been cancelled or are still active by choosing "Yes" or "No." Archive: Exclusively display archived and inactive shipments using this filter's "Yes" or "No" option. Shipment Details You'll find a comprehensive display of shipment details on the Shipments page. Let's take a closer look at the information presented, moving from left to right: Courier Service: This column provides information about the courier service used for each shipment. Request Date: Displays the date when the shipment request was made. Reference: This field contains the reference associated with each shipment provided by the customer during the shipment request. Response Result: If you click the "See Requests" button, you will be directed to the "API Request Records" page, offering a comprehensive view of all information related to this request. Tracking Section: This section provides tracking information for each parcel sent via a tracked service. Clicking "See History" opens a window with detailed tracking information, including: Shipment: The customer's reference for the shipment. Tracking Code: The unique code provided by the courier for tracking purposes. On-Time Status: Indicates whether the shipment is expected to be on time or late. Tracking Status: Depending on the courier and parcel status, you may encounter various statuses, including: Booked Collected At Hub In Transit Out for Delivery Failed Attempt Delivered On Hold Address Issue Returned to Sender Tracking Expired Cancelled Awaiting Customer Collection Authentication Failed Please note that not all couriers support all these statuses, and some may not provide tracking updates. "Booked" and "Delivered" statuses are typically supported by all couriers. Cancel: Allows you to initiate the cancellation of a shipment, with the cancellation request forwarded to the courier. Label: Clicking this option redirects you to a new tab where you can view and print the shipment label. Info: Provides detailed information about the label, including product dimensions (Width, Length, Height, and Weight in metric units), SKUs contained within the shipment, and the Tracking Code. Custom View: If you opt for a custom view, additional columns become visible, such as "To Name," "To Company," "To Postcode," "To Country," "Reference," and "API Account" (also "Account Name" and "Account Number" if selected). These columns correspond to the filters discussed in this document's "Filters" section, offering further customization options. Downloading CSV To obtain a report of your shipments, click the "Download CSV" button in the top right corner, as illustrated below. An Excel-format file will be generated for you, and within moments, it will initiate the download process. Please note that the download duration may vary depending on the selected data size, so it might take a while, as indicated in the image below. Once the file is ready, it will be delivered to your email address, allowing you to access and download it.
